We are delighted to bring you a very special set of screen prints from Kenji Nakayama, Étude #49 is based off his painting of the same name, from a series of 49 paintings that were exhibited at Fourth Wall Project in early 2014. In Zen Buddhism, the 49 days following death are a transition period between lives, when the soul is not attached to a physical body. On the 49th day, family and friends hold a ceremony to celebrate the rebirth of the deceased into a new form. The series was created by using variation as a process for exploration, and Étude #49 came about organically as the last in the series.
Étude #49 (Light) is an alternative colorway screen printed in four colors—golden yellow, dark orange, bright teal and black—on 80lb Cream Speckletone French Paper. The print measures 16×20″. Each is signed and numbered by Kenji and accompanied by a certificate of authenticity.
Edition of 25 prints.
